Benefits of Mass
Production
Mass production economies come from several sources. The
primary reason was to increase the amount of production while decreasing
the amount of work, and cost. The idea of mass production is not new. In
fact, it has been around for several hundred years. The first documented
factory was the Venice Arsenal who was said had the ability to produced
nearly one ship a day.
Each worker repeats the same task repeatedly using the same tools. Once
he is finished with his task, he passes the product to the next person
who in turns performs his task. This is repeated until the product is
complete. Each worker has the exact tools and parts at hand to perform
his task, thus increasing the amount of products that worker can
produce.
Because the factory can produce a greater amount of products, also means
that a larger amount of materials is needed. By purchasing a greater
volume of materials, the factory can reduce the overhead costs related
with shipping, ordering, etc...
