What Is a Manufacturers Representative?
A manufacturer's representative is a sales person who is ether a
self-employed businessperson
or employed by the manufacturer. This person represents the product line
of manufacturer
to buyers and potential clients. A self-employed manufacturer's rep may
represent
more than one, non-competitive product line
A manufacturer's representative job is to generate sales. This is
accomplished
by traveling to existing clients as well as potential clients home or
office, trade
shows, craft fairs, and or conventions.
The manufacturers representative is obligated to accurately represent
the manufacturer
expedite orders, notify management of any conflicts, and to remain in
contact with
the manufacturer via telephone, e-mail, or in-office visits. The rep is
also obligated
to inform the manufacturer of any conflicts of interest, as representing
other product
lines. The manufacturer's representative is usually paid on commission
of generated
sales.
